Panel Discussion: African-American Leisure in the Sunshine State and Beyond

Panelists include Contemporary Artist Derrick Adams; Dr. Gretchen Sorin, author of Driving While Black: African American Travel and the Road to Civil Rights and Cynthia Wilson-Graham, co-author of Remembering Paradise Park: Tourism and Segregation in Silver Springs; Moderated by MFA Curator of Contemporary Art Katherine Pill, the artists and authors will examine how the publication of The Green Book, a travel guide for African-Americans, and segregated recreation sites such as Florida's Paradise Park and American Beach, allowed Black families to enjoy vacations and road trips, helping to usher in the Civil Rights era.
